End of season procedure

22 Mar 2024 by Jenny Waddington

Dear Player / Parent

We wanted to make you all aware of this years’ end of season procedure which will remove the need for all players to go through the trials process and remove any unnecessary uncertainty for most. The shadow squad and ETC will finish on Friday 31st May (last training session).

Throughout May, players will receive their second review of the season, we have chosen to delay this review from March to May due to the following information. The second review will also inform the player if they have a place within the squad for the following season or if the coach and I feel that the current training environment is not at the appropriate level for the player. This may include signposting to skills centres or development centres if the player is not quite achieving the required standard or progressing to the ETC if the players is excelling within the group.

All reviews will include area’s which the players are achieving and areas for improvement, irrelevant of the decision to offer a place for next season or refer to an alternative programme, this is to ensure that we can support the players in developing regardless of the end decision whilst acknowledging the improvements they have made throughout the current season.

If the decision you receive is one which is not the outcome you had hoped for, then there will be opportunities to discuss the areas for improvement with the coach and myself, although I must stress that this will not change the decision of the outcome. As parents we hope you will support us in this process by managing the expectations of your daughter and explaining the different possible outcomes in line with the information shared.

We hope this process continues to raise the quality of the programme whilst making decision based on working with players for throughout the season rather than solely through the trials process. In addition to this, we are hoping that we will have several training fixtures prior to the end of the season to support the development and learning process of the previous weeks, this process will likely take place during our short move to Castleford where we will have two pitches available, allowing for more flexibility with pitch space for the games.

I hope this information finds you well, should you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch via email or at training.

Jenny and Abi
